Who's doing the senators' work while they campaign?

Do Clinton and O'Bama have to take personal leaves of absence in order to leave their jobs and campaign? Are we taxpayers paying their salary so that they can campaign?Who's doing the senators' work while they campaign?
Excellent question.

I read somewhere that in 20 years, Ron Paul hasn't missed a voting session on Constitutional bills.

McCain on the other hand couldn't be rated by a recent 'how conservative are they' voting service, because he simply didn't have enough votes to rate.

I suspect the other two are having absentee issues, as well.Who's doing the senators' work while they campaign?
Senators have one of the best jobs on the planet. They can come and go as they want and they can miss as many sessions as they want. The only thing that gets a little sticky is their voting record. They may not be there for 200 debates on an issue but they try to be there for the votes because the votes show up to us voters and lets us know how often they voted and how.

Most of the duties at a Senator's home office is handled by their staff. They have a home staff and they have a congressional staff. Both staffs are in tune to the Senator's way of doing things and they know what a Senator can and cannot do.

If you call your Senator's office with a need the staff automatically know what their options are and what they can do to help you. The staff is well trained.

Their staffers.

And they do return to Washington for important votes.

How convenient that you mention Obama and Clinton, but completely leave out McCain. Or have you managed to convince yourself that saintly John McCain is both running for President and maintaining a full Senate schedule while those dirty rotten Democrats shirk their duties?
Who says senators work? They get paid no matter what they do. When Strom Thurmond was at the end of his career in the senate, it was said he was basically senile. His staff ran things for him. The staff of all senators do the heavy lifting, and the senators vote, give speeches, and raise money. Paid leave? You're kidding, right? Don't you know when members of congress go on fact finding missions and junkets, they get paid even if they do nothing. (And there is a lot of nothing.) You assume a great deal about government. And that is exactly what they want. You believe they're working. Makes their lives easier.
I belive its the guy that used to host that show , ';Romper Room '; . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romper_Room
Senators typically don't work, whether they're running or not. No difference...their staffers are the only ones who ever show up anyway.

Hmmm...maybe staffers should run for office and we can have some progess.
Obama doesn't have to worry about it. He just votes ';absent'; now instead of ';present';.
They still have the same staffers drafting legislation, but as far as actually casting votes, nobody takes their places.
Senators don't work, c'mon.
The people of NY happily pay HIllary when she's away...

She does less harm that way.
The same people who always do it - their staff.
interns.
that's the way it's always been....lol....new to politics are you
