What does the Red Elite mean in Halo 3 campaign?

I thought the red elite in Halo 3 campaign meant you had the worst connection in the party. Am I right? What does the Red Elite mean in Halo 3 campaign?
Contrary to what the others have said, Master chief is NOT always host... nor is he always party leader. I have no idea how it is chosen.

Likewise, being the red elite does not mean, necessarily, that you have the worst connection.

On a related note, the only way to actually tell who is host, thus being deemed the player with the BEST connection, is to hit the start button. Only the host will have the ';Revert to Last Checkpoint'; option. (You'll notice that this is not always Master Chief.)What does the Red Elite mean in Halo 3 campaign?
no it just means that you are the 4th player, Master chief is host (not to be confused with party leader) Arbiter is 2nd player, and Blue Elite is third.
the red elite is the fourth player so just like the other guy said the fourth elite has different armor though and he doesnt do anyin special
